Fr. Paul Borowski, Pastor

Dear Brothers & Sisters:

Two weeks ago I drove down to Brooklyn for meetings immediately following the Patriots victory over my home town team of the Ravens.  I had a lot of time to think and pray as I drove down I-87.  I was sorry for throwing a football thru the big screen TV of the family who invited me over to watch the game.  I was praying the State Police would not pull me over for overly aggressive driving.  Like the die hard sports fan I am, I replayed the final two minutes of that game agonizingly over and over.  Then on Tuesday morning after the game I read the following quote from Baltimore Raven running back, Ray Rice.  He said:   "I get over wins and losses really fast.  I've had the ability to get over this one faster than people expected me to. I will watch the Super Bowl. There are people in the world hurting worse than the Baltimore Ravens. There are people with cancer; people suffering from poverty, disease. There are people battling real-life situations.”

I will still bleed purple every Sunday next football season.  I will watch today’s Super Bowl with my mouth buttoned (not mentioning who I will be rooting for).  But I will be thankful for a young running back who has helped me learn a valuable lesson.  There is more to life than winning or losing.  Life is about people — it’s about reaching out to be Jesus Christ to all our brothers and sisters, especially to the poor, the vulnerable and those in need.  Sports are a good distraction but may they never take our eye off the end game:  living a life of love in the manner of a Teacher, Jesus Christ.  So, enjoy today’s game but in the end there are no Giant fans and no Patriot fans; we are all children of God and members of HIS Number One Team!

Peace to you and your families,

Fr. Paul
